I Called You by Name 5/5 - This story made me consider how loneliness manifests.Īn Exotic Marriage 4/5 - This story of marriage reminds me of traditional Japanese fairy tales. Typhoon 5/5 - A little bit of everyday umbrella magic. She decides to become a bodybuilder.įitting Room 5/5 - A mysterious customer is in the dressing room at a retail shop. The Lonesome Bodybuilder5/5 -Excellent story about a woman trapped in an unhappy marriage. The translator did a lovely job with this one, and it included modern slang terms which a less talented translator might have gotten slightly wrong. The author used magical realism to create modern fairytales around the complex feelings of womenhood. I decided to rate each individual story in this collection. ![]()

![]() ![]() Robert Williams, award-winning author, legal scholar, and member of the Lumbee Indian Tribe, proposes a wide-ranging reexamination of the history of the Western world, told from the perspective of civilization's war on tribalism as a way of life. Throughout the centuries, conquest, war, and unspeakable acts of violence and dispossession have all been justified by citing civilization's opposition to these differences represented by the tribe. Historical conflicts between the Western world and tribalism are said to be grounded in irreconcilable differences in culture, governing institutions, religion and worldview. ![]() From one of the world's leading experts on Native American law and indigenous peoples' human rights comes an original and striking intellectual history of the tribe and Western civilization that sheds new light on how we understand ourselves and our contemporary society. ![]() ![]() ![]() Spielgaben Materials Used in This Postįor this post, I used a yarn ball from Spielgaben set #1, natural wooden cubes from Spielgaben set #3, and wooden dots from Spielgaben set #10. SIZE smALL Jan Brett's 1989 The Mitten is now available in a board-book edition, for littlest readers. (Sept.) Copyright 1989 Cahners Business Information. Nicki finds his mitten, and takes it home, but Baba is left to wonder about how it became so enormously stretched out. That mouse tickles the bear's nose and he sneezes, dislodging all of the animals at once. First comes a mole, then a rabbit, a hedgehog, an owl, a badger, a fox, a bear and, finally, a mouse. Sure enough, the first time Nicki is out, he drops one and some animals promptly move into its snug wool interior. Baba, Nicki's grandmother, knits pure white mittens for him, even though she is afraid that he will lose them in the snow. ![]() 7/7/2023 0 Comments The Young Elites by Marie Lu![]() These young survivors call themselves the Young Elite everyone else calls them malfettos, the cursed. ![]() In a fantasized version of Renaissance Italy, those who survive the dreaded blood fever find themselves gifted with magical powers. The protagonist becomes slightly inebriated on wine in one celebratory scene. The language is uniformly mild (a couple of uses of "bastard" and "damn"), and sexual content is limited to flirting, a character who works as a "consort" in a brothel, and two passionate embraces that get cut off before things progress too far. There's a fair amount of violence - an accidental trampling by a horse, a murder committed by hammering a wire into the eye, a few magical duels - but the graphic details are usually not described.
